What you pay attention to will define your reality
Paying attention to what is important to you will define your reality. Instead of seeking new experiences, practice being happy and content with what you already have. Remember that your desires are endless, but your needs are limited. Because something is newer does not mean it is better.
“Missing out” is what makes our choices meaningful in the first place.[¹]
Practice saying “no” to distractions and unnecessary commitments, so you can say “yes” to what matters to you. External forces often impose time pressure, but work will expand to fill the time allocated.
“Work expands to fill the time available for its completion,” C. Northcote Parkinson wrote in 1955, coining what became known as Parkinson’s law.[¹]
We live in a limited amount of time, and by accepting the inevitability of death, we can become present in our lives. The paradox is that they no longer feel so restricted by the constraints of reality. What you do with your life may not matter to the universe, but focusing on what matters to you is the key to using your time in a meaningful way.
