Discomfort as a driver for action
“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.” [¹]
Discomfort and dissatisfaction can drive us to take action to relieve those feelings. This motivates us to achieve our goals as we seek to address the source of our discomfort. At the same time, pleasure and enjoyment can also serve as motivators as we seek out activities that bring us joy and satisfaction.
Focusing on traction rather than distraction can be helpful. Identify the actions that will move us closer to our goals and focus on them rather than getting sidetracked by distractions.
Play and fun can also help achieve complex tasks, as they can help to break up the monotony and add some novelty to the job. This helps keep us engaged and motivated. Yet, we need to find the right balance, as too much play can become a distraction.
We must align our motivations with our goals and find ways to manage distractions to stay focused and productive.
